3D echo in clinical practice: better than 2D?

The heart has a moving, complex three-dimensional shape that has been examined by ultrasound in limited dimensions in the last fifty years with assumptions and interpolations.
Although attempts were made to create 3-dimensional formats right from the early 1970s, dimensional evolution moved towards dimensional revolution with the advent of live 3D echocardiography (3DE) in 2001.
Live 3D imaging is based on the premise that a 3D image can be created using ultrasound waves by scanning an ultrasound beam through a 3D volume. As the term implies, “real-time” 3D imaging takes place on the fly, with reconstruction (in one or more cardiac cycles) performed simultaneously with imaging.

Para este blog, o 3D é muito superior ao 2D e só não foi absorvido ainda pelo alto custo das máquinas sem um repasse adequado dos serviços de saúde.
